Everything about your postnatal period

Vitamin K and D

The baby needs vitamin K for blood clotting in the body. The liver of a newborn is not yet fully developed and cannot produce this vitamin. Breastfeeding does not contain enough vitamin K, therefore it is necessary to give vitamin K to your baby from the 8th day on a daily basis. After the 3rd month, babies can produce the vitamins on their own accord, and you can stop the supplementation. The consultation office can advise you on this. Vitamin K is available without a prescription from a drugstore or pharmacy.

If you are giving your baby formula, you do not have to supplement vitamin K.

All children receive vitamin D from the 8th day. You may continue to do so until they reach the age of 4.
