When to call the midwife

When to call the midwife

We will give advice in the pregnancy on when to call us. You will also receive a summary of this on paper. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, you can always contact us earlier! You can reach us 24/7 at 06 23 29 56 62.

Labor normally begins between 37 and 42 weeks of pregnancy. In the situations below, contact the midwife by phone.

Regardless of gestational age:

  • In case of blood loss
  • When the baby moves less

Before 37 weeks gestational age:

  • In case of broken waters, contractions or blood loss.

After 37 weeks gestational age:

  • If it is the first delivery, call at 1 hour regular contractions every 3-4 minutes that last about 1 minute
  • If it is the second or next delivery, call at 1 hour regular contractions every 4-5 minutes lasting about 1 minute
  • Blood loss. Basically, you always call when you lose vaginal blood. When you lose a lot of mucus, it is normal that this is combined with a little bit of blood loss. You do not need to call us for this.
  • Amniotic fluid loss. In case of clear amniotic fluid and no contractions, you can call us during the day. This should always be reported within 24 hours.
  • In case of green or brown amniotic fluid, you should call us immediately, regardless of day or night.
